"Darren has worked from September 2009 to July 2010 here at Wilson’s School. He has run a lunchtime club on a Friday with our year 7 cricketers. Initially, 50 pupils showed an interest in playing cricket for the school at A or B team level, and so Darren worked with 25 kids on an alternate week basis. These sessions took place in the sports hall and were very much based upon skill practices of batting, bowling and fielding. Darren displayed a very good ability at working with and improving pupils with varying ranges of ability.
After Christmas, the group was narrowed down to around 28 pupils who we felt would represent the A or B team this summer. Darren was very much part of this process. This selection then enabled Darren to work more specifically in the indoor nets and with higher level drills. This continued after Easter in the outdoor nets and with structured fielding practices.
This season the Year 7 teams have shown good ability and great enthusiasm, and a lot of this can be attributed to Darren’s work. His attendance and punctuality are excellent, he is very organised, extremely enthusiastic, and shows a great ability to produce different drills and practices that develop the skills of all pupils."
